70 Veena Maestros immersed all present in bliss, as they produced a melodiius symphony togther, in presence of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar!

‪#‎SriSri‬: They are all gems and pride of our country. We will continue this Veena program again on 19th March, in Gurupaduka Vanam, with 2000 Veena players!

Ques: What is the purpose of culture and music and dance bringing people together? Even World Culture Festival is around music and dance and not sports or something like that?

#SriSri: Music is a part of our life. A child first starts singing and then only starts speaking. There is no one human being on the planet who does not sing. So music is harmony of consciousness, of energy. It is produced with a harmonious state and it produces a harmonious state both. And music unites people. Music has no language, it is beyond language. See today they played so many songs here. And all the four states, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, all states came together. Language is so different. But in the music there is integration, there is unity. So music units people in the heart and soul of the society, especially instruments, music really strikes that chord of harmony. And second thing is that, traditional music is being forgotten. We want to encourage young people to rejoice and relish traditional music. You will keep liking something when you keep listening to it more and more. So if you listen to classical music you will develop a taste for it. Of course, not that we don’t want to include sports, sports is also part of it. Sometime in the future we will include sports also. Main thing is from the music you have to come to silence. There is an ancient saying, “Shabda brahmani nishnatha param brahmadigachchati” – Having taken a shower of music, get into the depth of silence in your being. Experience your vastness. You are not only your body, you pervade everything, you are in everything, sound is a means to experience this.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Satsang today
The first level of communication, which is para level, is beyond comprehension, it is that level of communication from where there is no duality. There is no two. It is knowledge. So para, pashyanti, madhyama, vaikari, four levels. Today we did our Intuition Process for blind children, the blind children were able to read and we asked how do you read, they said ‘we are reading through our mind’s eye’.. They are able to read by just touching, just be feeling it. The intuition process now what we are teaching for kids, this is what happens. The intuition gets developed, then without having to open their eyes, they can feel through the mental faculty. This could become a revolution. Our teachers asked me, can we do this with the blind children. I said, ok, do it, try, experiment it. And today they have come up saying it’s working wonderfully! This is giving a hope to go to all the blind schools and teach those kids. They don’t need to go through the Braille, we got to open up another inner faculty for them to see things. They are able to say the colours, numbers, everything!

Ques: How do we know we have reached the end of our karmas?

#‎SriSri‬: Just don’t worry about karmas. Just celebrate life! Just sitting and thinking about good karma and bad karma is no good. Just let it go. Don’t worry about it. You are free. Remember you are diamond and karma is water. Diamond can never get wet.

Ques: Failures in life are opportunities for improvemt. Can You share any such experience in your life?
#SriSri: I can’t think of some failures like that, not at all. I haven’t been in a situation where I have to lament for failure or in a situation where I feel so sorry. I’ve never said sorry for having done some mistake. It has never happened so safr. So far! I don’t think there is any chance for it happening in the future also. But everybody’s mistake is also My mistake. I take it that way. Because if we had reached this knowledge to them earlier, perhaps it would never have happened. Once I went to address the prisoners in Allahabad and some of the said, those who ere really transformed, they said ‘If we had had this knowledge earlier, then we would not have been here. They said, ‘Gurudev, you are responsible for us being here. Why didn’t you teach this knowledge earlier!’ I agreed with them. We should have taught this in schools and colleges. To prevent crime we have to do this. In that sense we are responsible.

Ques: Do natural calamities happen because all the people share the same karma or is it because staying in that place?
#SriSri: Yes, yes. There is a karma of space and time also. There is individual karma, there is family karma, there is society karma and there is karma of space and time. That’s why it’s so deep and so vast, if you go into analyze it is a big headache. You should not do that at all. Lord Krishna Himself said to Arjuna, ‘Gahan karmanoh gatiih’ unfathomable are the ways of karma, you just forget about it. Don’t go on and keep analyxing it. What good will that do? It’s not going to help you in anyway. When you move with conviction and with wisdom all those negative karmas will simply vanish. There are three types, one you do it yourself, Kaarita’ , you make someone do it and then anumodi, you just keeping quiet or accepting their karma, that also brings out karma. If you really go into it, it is really scary! Suppose a thief is stealing something or a dacoit is doing some wrong things and suppose you have fed him something you got the karma of that seva also. Suppose you have fed a beggar on the street and he does some wrong thing, that will also come to you. It is a vast area of karma and if you go on to that, it is endless. So how to be without the karma sticking on to you? That is yoga. Yoga greases you so that it doesn’t stick anywhere. When they make halwa, they put more ghee. The more ghee you pour so that the halwa does not stick to the pan. Bhakti is that ghee which does not allow your karma to stick on to the pan.

Ques: Can an atheist get liberated?
#SriSri: Absolutely, yes yes, very much. But atheist should remove the label that he is a atheist. If he is a nobody then he can get liberated. If he says I am an atheist, I don’t believe in something, it is believing in not believing something. That is Atheism. It is not hollow and empty. Atheist means, this belief is also another belief. You are believing in a belief called atheism. If you simply accept I don’t know whether there is some power, some God or not, I have no idea, he is not atheist. One who admits ignorance is not atheist. But one who says I know there is no God, he is ignorant. Because he is so sure that there is no God. That is atheist. What do atheists say, ‘ What I know is all that is, what I don’t know doesn’t exist. If something exists, I must be knowing it. Since I don’t know, whatever I don’t know does not exist. This is atheism. If that is the atheism then you will miss many things. Because you already know that nothing exists. So you will not want to know if someone exists or not. See if you are agnostic it is fine. If you say, ‘I don’t know, we will believe it only after we experience it. In fact the oriental philosophy never asks you to believe something that you don’t know. Unlike the occident. In occident they say you believe in God then one day you will get an experience. In the orient you know first of all Gyan. What is it? The five principles, earth, water, fire, air, ether. And then three principles, mind, intellect and ego. And then the ninth one the Self, there is something called the Self. If you come to know these eight then you will come to know the ninth. Once you know the Self, you know that which is beyond the Self, that is para-atma. Atma is Self, paramatma is something which is beyond the Self. Beyond ‘I’ there is something called ‘Isth’, that you know through experience. When it comes to your experience only then can you say you know it. You don’t need to believe it before that. But you can’t say that I don’t believe I exist. Do you believe that you exist? If yes then what is you, who are you? This is all about meditation. This is what the Upanishads say. They never tell you, you believe in something that you don’t know. That’s why the oriental philosophy has never been in conflict with science, ever. Because science also goes with a systematic understanding of what you know to what you don’t know. And the oriental philosophy also from the known to the unknown. And there are some unknown things, accepting the unknown and loving the unknown is what is called Shraddha. And once you have shraddha then you get It. If the Wright Brothers didn’t have faith that they could fly, they would never have attempted to do that. If birds can fly, I can also fly, let me put my effort. So this is what is Darshana(mirror) Shastra. It is made up of 6 darshanas of which Yoga is the fourth one. The first is Nyaya, the means of knowledge, whether the means of knowledge is correct or not. So I am seeing the sun setting and sun rising, is this knowledge correct? This is Nyaya Darshana. See thousands of years ago, they discovered that the earth is moving around the sun. And the earth is spherical, they call it bhugola, gola means spherical. The Universe is called khagola, the Universe is spherical. Even here in India, students study in schools and colleges that it was Galileo who found out first the Earth is spherical.. the Earth is spherical was known five thousand years ago! Have you seen in two thousand and 1500 year old temples, the varaha statue which carries a round earth. The earth is spherical was known long time ago. And all the planets are around the sun, you go to any temple they will put all the planets with the sun in the middle. So this knowledge was already there. Even now if you see the Panchang, it determines exactly what time is the sun rise, the moon rise, what time the eclipse starts, to the second. They could be a variation of just a few seconds, twenty seconds not more. It’s very, very accurate, that’s what we see in the calculations. It’s been happening for a very long time. This is possible because even philosophy we understood with a scientific temper. Now having said it, don’t think we have no superstition on the planet. We have plenty of them. So many superstitions. Ladies should not touch Shiva Linga, should not keep Shiv Ling in home, so many things, like ladies should not chant Gayatri mantra. All sorts of nonsense also we have. Where all the time gender equality has been emphasized, in practice that is not being done. And in temple people go and pour litres and litres of milk on the statue, nowhere is it said that u have to put so much milk on the statue. And it all goes into the gutter. I already told them to not do that. Pour milk but then catch it and distribute it..Keep your surroundings clean. So many types of ignorance, so many types of things which have no scriptural injunction are being practiced. They need some cleansing there. At the same time there is difference in culture and tradition. For example here in Karnataka, bride on their wedding day only where white saari. But in tamil Nadu the bride wears red saree.. these are all the customs which make the country very interesting!

Ques: How important is it to wake up early on the spiritual path?

#SriSri: Have a good sleep and whenever you wake up, you sit up and meditate. But for teachers training people here, it’s a different story! At least during the teacher training, these fifteen days you have to do your padmasadhana in a group so you will have to let the alarm ring and wake up with that! But go to bed early also.. I want our teachers to be the lighthouse of the society. Each one of you is like the honeycomb for the society. You are going to transform the lives of thousands of people, so for that you have to become strong yourself. So we will make you so strong that you will never lose your smile in any situation and all our work gets done effortlessly. We have infinite possibilities inside us. We don’t use it. We have to recognize it and we have to wake up. One who is awake can make everyone awake.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in satsang today

Ques: Intentionally or unintentionally the good and bad deeds we have already done, can we nullify them after taking birth on this planet?
‪#‎SriSri‬: One can. Om Namah Shivayah will eliminate all our bad deeds. Pranayama eliminates all negativity. Just chant Om Namah Shivayah and pray, no need to do anything else.

Ques: They say we must dream and strive to make those dreams a reality. So how far are these ambitions helpful?
#SriSri: Have big dreams and make them a reality. But after that you relax. There two ways. When people have a lot of energy we ask them to work. Those who are tired after working hard, we ask them to relax. Both are right. We say ‘pravritti’ and ‘nivritti’. When you need pravritti and when you need nivritti you should know. That is discrimination. With discrimination all work gets done properly. Without discrimination everything goes wrong.

Ques: Is there any relation of Lord Krishna to Vibhuti yoga?
#SriSri: See there are many concepts. Many ways of explaining the One thing. Krishna says, ‘I am beyond fire, air, ether but people think I am a human being but I am the consciousness. I am the manifest consciousness’. That’s what Krishna says He is. The ‘chaitanya shakti’ or the consciousness is Krishna. That’s why in Vibhuti yoga Krishna says wherever you find something beautiful know that it is Me there. Because of Me there is strength in the strong, because of Me there is intelligence in the intelligent, because of Me there is beauty in the beautiful. So I am the cause of everything. That consciousness is Krishna. Among the Rudras I am Shankara, I am Skanda, I am Karthikeya, I am everybody and among Pandavas I am Arjuna also. Krishna Tattva is in everything, in everybody. That’s why who is an intelligent person? One who sees Me in everybody and everyone in Me is really an intelligent person. I will always be available for him.

Ques: What is the meaning of ‘Asangoham’?
#SriSri: I am not this. I am not the sensation, I am not the thoughts, I am not the body. I am here as a witness, I am not there. That is what is ‘Asangoham’.

Ques: Why does the Universe exist?
#SriSri: It exists so that you can ask this question. What is it you want to do with the answer? You should ask what should I do here rather than why it exists! Why is the sky blue? Why is water flowing? Why is fire burning? These are irrelevant questions. Why do human beings have two eyes? Why two holes in one nose? That is what it is!

Ques: Whatever I do it all goes haywire. Please give me the strength to live my life in peace. Mentally I am disturbed, physically and financially also things are not going well. Please give me strength.
#sriSri: Stop feeling whatever I do goes haywire. When you put food in your mouth does it go into your ear? Its going in your mouth only, right? You spoke now, that didn’t go haywire right? You expressed your feelings. We sow a seed in the mind that whatever we do goes haywire. It is not like that. Some things you do with ambitions that’s why they go wrong. You plan too much and do then things go wrong. If you took 8 tasks in hand and even if 7 go wrong at least 1 has been successful. We should not think everything I do goes haywire. Because of ignorance, say something went wrong, learn something from it. We don’t learn. This is the problem. When things went wrong we didn’t learn. We convince ourselves that we are right. Then things keep going wrong time and again. Then there is another extreme like you. They decide everything they do is wrong. People don’t look for the reason, they keep assuming everything they are doing is going wrong. This is also not right. Follow the middle path. One should not think what I am doing is right even when things are going wrong, this is wrong or whatever I am doing is wrong only, this is also wrong. We should follow the middle path. What went wrong we should learn from it and move on and move on with this faith that God is with us and he won’t let us lose. Have this faith that no matter what there is victory. In every challenge there is a destination, there are steps to progress. You should move on with this faith. Follow the middle path. Look into yourself. Life has given us a lot. Some problems also we had to face. All that keeps happening. For every problem you faced, you always had a helping hand which uplifted you. Didn’t it happen? Tell me? Help kept coming to you. That is why you should live with gratitude.

Ques: If the body is the wick and the mind is the glow, then what is the wax?
#SriSri: Time and karma.

Ques: Can I change the cycle of my life?
#SriSri: Definitely you can change. Life is not all predestined.

Ques: How do you think I should celebrate my birthday?
#SriSri: On your birthday you should remember that before these years we were the eternal soul and now we took a body and one day we will be back to how we were before. We should celebrate. We came as a wave from the ocean and we are in the ocean only. I am the eternal soul and I belong to the Divine, meditate upon this.

Ques: How to remember the Guru all the time, not just when pain or suffering arises?
#SriSri: When you are happy then you be grateful. So then you remember God when you are happy. And when you are unhappy then you remember God because you are praying to get rid of the pain. These are the two occasions when your prayer is very authentic. When you are totally grateful or when you are suffering. So these are the times when prayer happens, other times meditation happens. Every time you don’t need to go on remembering. You are in Bangalore, you don’t need to go on remembering ‘I am in Bangalore, I am in Bangalore’. You take it for granted that you are in Bangalore and that’s it. You live your life. Otherwise you will create a split in the mind, you will get spit personality! No need to remember all the time.

Ques: I am here for the teacher training program, my family and friends are scared that after doing it I will lose my connection with them. I too am fearful of that.
#SriSri: Here your connection does not break, it becomes stronger! You tell them that you will also get them here. Yes if your company is not good then you will definitely loose the connection. If your friends drink then you will not be joining them for that. They should be scared that they will lose their drinking habit.

Ques: Should not majority of the parliamentarians be from Art of Living for a better world?
#SriSri: Everyone needs The Art of Living, inside or outside Parliament or on the streets.

Ques: When we look at people who are suffering we feel we are fortunate or feel sorry for them. Is that bad?
#SriSri: You have no control over it. Comparison or compassion arises spontaneously. You don’t have to label it good or bad, that’s how it is. It’s ok, whatever feelings comes at that moment it is ok. But don’t act simply on your feelings see it through your intellect.

Ques: Sometimes I go into some other world of imagination. Is it a mental disease or a tendency of the mind? If it’s a disease, how to cure it?
‪#‎SriSri‬: It is the nature of the mind to wander. Focusing on the Self will stabilize it. When you are aware that your mind is wandering , you have to bring it back. You should bring it back into meditation.

Ques: So much time has passed but still I couldn’t get of my negativity.
#SriSri: You making an effort to get rid of your negativity is the reason its holding on to you. Just drop it and you will find peace.

Ques: They say we all have taken a body crores of times. May I know who you were in your past life?
#SriSri: With time you will know.

Ques: I am unable to do satsang. Even if I meditate my mind wanders into negativity. Even if I am with you and free over here I feel I am unable to do it. Why?
#SriSri: Its takes dispassion to meditate. You should feel that this is all a dream. Then you will be peaceful. Pranayama stabilizes the mind. Stability comes with merit. If you are unenthusiastic your mind will wander. If you have found the juice in bhajans and mantras, there are many ways of doing it. I have elaborated all this in Advance Meditation Program. Just do this program 2-3 more times, it will happen.

Ques: What are the reasons a person can come out of the spiritual path? Sometime back I felt I am Love and everything is Me. How can I have this all my life?
#SriSri: Well, don’t worry about it. Take it all as one experience. Your true nature is Love. You can never go away from it. Some clouds can come in between but that is only temporary. You feel you have fallen you have really not fallen. That is temporary phase, a transition you are going through.

Ques: I have forgotten to laugh from the heart. To bring back the laughter what can I do?
#SriSri: You are in the right place.

Ques: When somebody asked me about the World Culture Festive I told them that their strong impressions will get erased with the influence of high positive energy during the festival. Later I felt may be that is my concept. Kindly explain the knowledge of the festival.
#SriSri: A bigger event definitely brings a bigger impression on the mind. A festival is where everyone comes together to express the joy of life. Just tell them to come that’s enough, you don’t have to hard tell someone you must come otherwise you will miss the boat. Nothing like that. If it is convenient for you come, if it is too much of a stretch no need you can sit in front of the television and watch. No need to force someone to come, generally ask people to join. That’s the best thing.

Ques: If we are immortal and eternal, why so much pain in life?
#SriSri: The question ‘why’ is always attatched to pain. You never ask why there is so much joy? Why there is so much beauty? Have you ever asked that? No. You only ask why there is pain? Right? So, the pain is there so that you can go in and realize the source of life. So you can get detached. Even if there is so much pain you don’t get detached, if there is no pain there is no way you will be detached?

Ques: First it is said everything is Shiva tattva then it is nothing is.
Please explain.
#SriSri: There are 2 methods. One is analysis and another is synthesis. In analysis you say I am not this, I am not this, I am not this, that negation. You go to the the core of existence. That is what he said ‘Na bhoomir na jaapo Na tejo na agnir na vayur chidananda roopah shiviham shivoham’. I am not this earth, I am not the sky, I am not the water, I am the shiva tattva. This is one way. Another way is I am this, I am also this, I am also this, I am also this. ‘Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma’ All this is Brahman. ‘Sarvam Shiva mayam jagat’ This whole world is full of Shiva. This is another way. This is also correct, that is also correct. They are 2 methods that’s all. First you say not this, not this, not this and then you say everything is one.

Ques: What is the relevance and significance of Vanaprastha Ashram?
#SriSri: It’s very important. Today, Vanaprastha is very, very important. You have lived the life for yourself, now you have to live for society. There are four Ashrams. First twenty-five years is student life. In this student life, you do not seek pleasure or comfort. Because if you seek comfort, you won’t get knowledge. So either you are a seeker of knowledge or a seeker of comfort. So twenty-five years is the hardship of learning. Students in any discipline find it very hard to study, at least for the first year. Talk to any engineering student of first year or medical student in their first year, they find it so difficult. Once they go through it and endure the difficulties then it gets better. So that is twenty-five years of hardship of a student life. There is a beautiful proverb in Sanskrit that says if you are seeking pleasure, then how can you get wisdom and if you are seeking wisdom then where is there pleasure for you. Then next twenty-five years is Grihastha Ashram, it is time for your enjoyment. From twenty-five to fifty years, that is the time to get married, have children, have a household life. After fifty, twenty-five years is Vanaprastha Ashram, from twenty-five to fifty years. If you don’t want to start at fifty, you can start at sixty also, after retirement. After retiring from work, you still have a lot of energy, at that time you have to share your life with everyone. So far you have only been thinking about ‘me and my family’. But vanaprastha is not ‘me and my family’, limited family. The sense of family should extend beyond your biological family. That is Vanaprastha. Vanaprastha is when you can see every child is part of your family, everyone belongs to you, that’s it. A broader vision about your own self, your own life, that is Vanaprastha. And whatever you have heard, you have experienced, you share with the younger generation. You be with them and share your knowledge. Otherwise, you know, in Europe I have seen after fifty people feel that they are very useless and they get into depression. Suddenly they realize ‘oh I have crossed fifty and I am not wanted anymore’. The feeling of not being respected, not being wanted is a horrible feeling. And when it suddenly dawns then they go into depression. And this is happening in Eurpe, it’s started happening in this country also! I was once in Africa, and for a satsang our volunteers brought four to five buses full of people from old age homes. I just looked at their eyes and there was so much sadness! They are so sad, they felt completely destroyed because their children no longer care for them. Sometimes they send a card to their parents on mother’s day or father’s day, that’s it. They may visit during Christmas or they may not and just send some cards or some gifts. And some don’t even get that. The children have thrown them in the old age home and they feel so miserable. And this is misery is because they have not been in knowledge, they have not been exposed to wisdom. In Sweden they have made a TV serial, Ageing Gracefully. They wanted me to speak on that. It went very well in Sweden for a long time. Ageing gracefully was the title, how to age gracefully. Fortunately in India it is not a problem, because elders are respected, by and large. Here also, these days things are changing but from ancient times there is a tradition. If anyone in the big joint family is getting married, the invitation goes in the name of the eldest person in the whole family. It may be your uncle, your great grandfather. And you are supposed to go and take blessings from them during Diwali, on Holi, on all the festivals including your birthday. You have to go and touch their feet of the eldest in the family. That tradition is still alive, in the villages it is still alive. If you go to the village in this country, you still feel that the eldest person is very well respected. Whatever he says is the law. So this tradition of respecting the elders is needed all over the world today. It was their in the west also. But somewhere it got lost. In some villages, like the German villages, the eldest is still given a lot of respect. In China fortunately it is still there. The elder people do get respect. They even made a law, I heard, if chidren don’t visit the elders or parents, they will be fined!.. if you don’t take care of your elders, your parents, you will be taxed or you will be fined for that. It is an offence. So vanaprastha is that stage of life, when you have energy, you want to share your knowledge, your wisdom. We need to engage ourselves usefully in society. Why do people not respect elders in society? Because their life has been limited in small circles. But if you throw open our life, share it with many people, why would they not be respected? Why was Nelson Mandela respected till his last breath or even after his demise, and not with people from old age homes? Because you have not connected with the rest of the world, you have not connected with people or you have not done anything for the society. You have got your whole life holed up with ‘Me and my child’. And then one day the child washes his hands off and then you get depressed. Vanaprastha is moving away from the ‘Me, mine’ of the household life to ‘We, ours. The society is mine, I have to watch over everybody.’ That broader vision, taking responsibility beyond your biological family, this is vanaprastha. And then comes Sansyasa from seventy-five to a hundred, nothing is mine, I am nothing, I want nothing. That is the monk’s life. Monk needed be someone who has taken a vow to be a monk. Because even social activity and work have some obligations has its repercussions and attachments or lack of it. But that one stage in life you only think of the Divine and nothing more. Only think about your own origin, from where did you come and where you are going to go. Reeling in knowledge is the ashram is vanaprastha ashram. That can happen in seventy-five, it can happen any time. Sansya is not when you feel rejected or dejected in society and you feel dejected and you get so depressed you become a sansyasi.. Sansyasi is when you are centered and when you are happy when you are content and when you are connected with Divinity, connected with everyone around you and then you bless people, you gain the ability to bless. A body is not capable of doing much service, but your spirit is also powerful to bless people. And sanyasis are well respected.. So everyone can become a monk at a particular age. When you have done everything. When someone wants to become one at an earlier age, when you are satisfied with everything in life, you have no more cravings, no more aversions, you don’t want anything more from anyone, you say I would like to dedicate myself to serving the people.

Ques: Please talk about your father as today is his birthday
#SriSri: Well that was his broadmindedness. He was always a very broadminded, very progressive, very dynamic, extremely active person. He would go to remote villages from here, thirteen-fourteen hours he would travel, take a car or bus and serve the women of the remote village there and do some service activity there for the women, give them employment.. He was very fond of empowerment of the weaker section. He worked for the poorest of the poor people. Wherever they are he would go there. He nevre minded hardships, ‘ I can do this’. And always enthusiastic! Not one day he would look tired or depressed. Not one day, always very energetic and enthusiastic. His passion was serving the poor and the weaker section.

Ques: What is Bagavad seva?
#SriSri: Anything that you do very naturally is bhagavad seva, Jana seva is janardhan

Ques: What is 100% surrender?
#SriSri: See surrender itself is an illusion. Because surrender is an illusion to counter the illusion that you possess something! You wake up and see that nothing is yours anyway. The thoughts are not yours. Thoughts come and go like clouds in the sky. Everything in our body is changing, every cell of your body is changing all the time. Your mind is changing, your thoughts are changing, your feeling is changing. What is that which is yours? You think any good qualities are yours? Even that is a gift to you. You think bad qualities are yours? No, they just come for some time. So if your realize that nothing is yours, you don’t need to surrender at all.

Ques: Many people ask this ‘Who wants a Guru?’. What to answer them?
#SriSri: Who wants a Guru? The one who is asking the question. And anyone who answers becomes a Guru, anyone who asks becomes a student. You cannot say, I am not a doctor but I will give you medicine. And if someone says, I am not a patient and I need medicine, what will you tell them? Both are gone cuckoo! If you are asking for medicine you are cuckoo and if you are giving medicine, then you are a doctor. Let’s keep it at that.

Ques: Now that my mind is inquisitive about spirituality, it is giving me a lot of hardship. What to do?
#SriSri: Just relax.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Satsang today
Ques: When will I become like You?
‪#‎SriSri‬: You are like Me only. Purity in heart, clarity in mind and sincerity in action. Keep your heart clean, mind clear and be sincere in action.
Ques: How do I overcome my habit of comparing myself with others?
#SriSri: Well, first start comparing yourself with yourself. That’s a better comparison. See what you were before, how much you have grown now. Like that see your own life.
Ques: How can I overcome this need for attention from others?
#SriSri: You have diagnosed the problem. That you did. The cure is very simple. Just act like a fool one day. Don’t think people give you attention because you have some quality. If you behave like a crazy person one day, all of them will pay attention. One day not more. Then you will lose the reputation. Listen, this is very important. What others do to you is immaterial. Don’t fight with others over how they should behave with you. Don’t demand how they should behave with me. From your side you can behave the way you want to behave. Got it? You can’t demand attention from others. It’s the most foolish thing to do in life. That shows your weakness. When you want attention from others that somewhere makes you very weak inside. All that you need to be aware is there is someone attending to you 24×7. There is some power with you watching over you. If you have that attention on you then no tension in life. How people should behave with us, it depends on them. Why it should have anything to do with you? Someone is good to you or someone is bad to you, you cannot question. Why do you behave like that with me? Why will you ask this? It is their right. If someone abuses you, they have the right to abuse you. You cannot change people’s behavior and don’t do so. If Guru only can’t do it, how can you do it? We say people should be accepted as they are. We want to change people’s behavior like we change TV channels. Like we increase and decrease the volume on radio, we want to change people’s behavior. We cannot change it. So don’t question people why do you behave like that with me? Tell them 12:39. How you want to behave with me is your choice. From my side I will behave well with everybody. People who don’t behave well, who insult , if you can behave well with them, then you are a good person. Otherwise what is so great about smiling back to a person who smiles at you? You didn’t do anything then. If they showed their anger and still you smiled then I will praise you that you did a wonderful thing. So don’t ask why people are not behaving well with me and don’t demand that they should behave well with you, this will make you sad and it will affect your behavior. This is what happens to neighbours. They behave well with each other and then difference of opinion comes. Then they argue. Then the good behavior changes into enmity. Friends become foes for this reason. We expect them to behave according to our wishes.
Ques: You always say that sometimes our head should win and sometimes our heart should win. Where does this apply?
#SriSri: When you do business do it with your head, when you live life, when you serve do it with your heart.
Ques: When I am getting married and I am seeing a girl, what should I use (head or heart)?
#SriSri: That time you should balance both.
Ques: Divinity is there is everybody. Is this divinity working in the human form or some human beings who do divine work become the Divine Himself?
#SriSri: The devotee is not different from the divine. Devotee and the divine are One. The work that uplifts everybody is divine’s work and everybody does divine work only, some people recognize this and some don’t. God is not sitting somewhere in the sky. That of which everything is made. He who belongs to everybody, who is ever present, He is God.
Ques: I sometimes feel the whole world is my imagination. After that feeling I couldn’t move on at all. Everything is blank. I couldn’t go into my regular activities after this feeling. I feel everything is my dream and someday I’ll wake up and everything will be fine.
#SriSri: So you have already woken up. See you can’t say it’s a dream when you are in the dream. Everything’s a dream when you wake up and when you wake up you do some good work in society.. We need to balance our inner feeling of freedom and our outer expression of life. Inside you feel great freedom. This is intellectual freedom.
Today it’s good Mr. Forrest is here from Australia. He is working on freedom from modern slavery.. There are two things. Being a good servant. Service or being a good servant to the society is entirely different from slavery. In slavery, you force someone to work. A servant is a volunteer. From your heart you want to serve people. Today thousands of volunteers are in the streets of Chennai from last evening, doing service. The Art of Living volunteers cooking food and supplying it. Today I got the images of they are doing it in knee deep water in the streets, no electricity, people are in such great distress and how our volunteers are moving for hours in the water together with all food and going door to door supplying it. This is service, to be a servant of society is mandatory for every human being. In a democracy, every leader, every head of state, takes an oath in the name of being a servant of the society. All the saints say that I am here to serve the society for my Lord who is in everyone’s heart. But slavery is violence against humanity. It’s a completely different thing. And slavish mentality, we have to first get rid of that. Slavish mentality comes from a lack of confidence in oneself. I would say it is lack of spirituality, which brings up a lack of confidence, lack of self-esteem which leads you into slavery. In slavery, both those who are enslaving and those who are succumbing to it, both are responsible. So the individuals are empowered with spiritual force that empowers the individual, that I will no longer be a slave, I will stand up. The confidence, the self-esteem in oneself, that has to be brought up, that is what spirituality brings.

Ques: You say if you run behind fun misery follows you and if you run behind knowledge fun follows you. Is it bad to have fun?
‪#‎SriSri‬: You want that only no? What do you want? Happiness. The desire for happiness is there but if you run behind happiness you will get misery and if you run behind knowledge happiness will come behind you. Don’t do it just because I am saying, you experience it yourself and see.

Ques: These days Brahmins do the job of Vaishyas and Shudra do the job of Kshatriya. Is this only the sign of Kaliyuga?
#SriSri: Caste doesn’t come by birth, it comes by work, karma. What work people do, they belong to that caste. If somebody belong to Vaishyas by birth but they teach, give knowledge, they are Brahmins. If a person is a Brahmin by birth and is doing business then he becomes a Vaishya. So caste is assigned by work, karma. The caste system is not how we are making it to be now. Until a person is studying he’s a Brahmin. When he completes his studies if he starts a business, he’s a Vaishya. If he leaves both and becomes a dancer and they you know what he has become.

Ques: In Bhagvad Gita Krishna says drop Dharma and come to me. Is Krishna beyond Dharma also?
#SriSri: See, Lord Krishna says drop Dharma, first you should have Dharma to drop it. How will you drop if you have not even got it? ‘Sarva Dharman arityajya mam ekam sharanam vraja’. He says it after 700 verses. If he had to say it in the very beginning it would have been very difficult. So, its like saying you get into the car and you get out of the car. You cannot club both and argue if I have to get out of the car why should I get into the car? You get into the car at some place and you get out of the car in some other place. Got it? If you drove and if you are still sitting in the car that is foolishness. So when Krishna was driving he said common get into the car at some place, follow the dharma and once you reached the goal He said ‘hey come. Get out of the car.’ You put soap but then you wash it away also. You can’t argue if you have to wash it, why do we have to put in the first place. Similarly, he says you cannot get rid of your sin. Don’t try that. Leave that to me. I will release you of all your sins. But you feel connected to me. You feel the oneness with me. Then I will take care of all your sins. It will all be gone in no time. So don’t worry, that’s what he says. Suppose you have a loan of 1 lakh rupees and then you are worried ‘ Oh, Rs. 1lakh, this is a loan, this is a debt on my head and suddenly someone comes and says what is there, Rs. 1 lakh? Never mind, I will give you Rs. 10 lakh, don’t worry. Then you feel connected to the person. Suddenly your father comes and says why are you worrying about Rs. 1 lakh? I have Rs. 10 lakh, its all yours. What will happen to you? In no time all that tension, worry of 1 lakh loan has gone, disappeared. Isn’t it? So you will say ‘Oh I have Rs. 10 lakh. 1lakh rupees loan I will repay and I have 9 lakh rupees more. I will do something.’ This is exactly what Lord Krishna says. Come to me, feel connected to me, you have no dearth of any sort. Don’t worry. ‘aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami ma sucah’.. So you are relieved. That’s what He’s saying.

Ques: You have told in Yoga Vashishth that nothing really is. I can understand it intellectually but can we experience it?
#SriSri: Intellectually you understand and be with it and when know that time will give you that experience. In time you will get. Intellectually you think this is all dream, one day you wake up and feel this could be dream. All that happened till this moment you went to school, you went to college, you did that, you did this, you attended so many weddings, wake up and see this very moment- now, now, now. Is it not like a dream? It’s all gone, over. Like that all the big events of the past some people died, some are born, so many things have happened, it’s all like a dream and you fought with people is it not like a dream now? You have been in love with people is it not like a dream now? It’s all like a dream. Pleasant days, unpleasant days everything is gone. So, this awareness. See when you are in your own little world and going with your thoughts , with your imagination, with your worries, with your desires, with your ambitions, it’s a different world, you are in a bubble. You are in your own little bubble. One day you will say let me wake up and see, then what happens? For a moment you say okay the whole part is a dream, then all the bubble you have created in your mind also bursts and you say ya this all could be a dream. One day you will kick the bucket and that’s it everything finishes. It’s all a dream. Whether our ambitions are fulfilled or unfulfilled, it feels like a dream.

Ques: You say the goal of life is to see how much love you have given and knowledge you have got. But my mind keeps looking at how much love I have got and knowledge I have given!
#SriSri: Yes, this is the formula for unhappiness! How much love I have got, how much knowledge I have given.. There is no one to take the knowledge and here you are ready to share all your wisdom and give advice. But there is no one ready to listen. You live being centered in your Self, then people will automatically listen to you.. Don’t think about how much love people have given you, how much respect you have got in society, don’t run after this. It will bring you unhappiness. Because even after doing a lot for others, if they don’t love you back or respect you, it will start hurting you. Don’t do that. Just do good and forget about it. You work for your own sake and be happy. You have no right over how another person treats you. Whatever good or bad someone tells you, they have complete right over it. If you go and ask them why said those bad things, it will only worsen the situation. Don’t ask people to treat you well. It’s their choice. You cannot ask them to treat you well. Someone complained to me saying they were not treated well. They did not treat you well, that is their choice! You treat them well, that id your choice. Don’t go on questioning how others treat you. By your questioning them, they are not going to treat you any better. Remember everyone is a postman, you get what you deserve. If your time is good, even your worst enemy will treat you well. If your time is not good even the best of friends will start blaming you for nothing, they will behave like an enemy. So realizing the greatness of time, you say “kalay tatmani namah” this means..Shiva is called the grand time I bow down to that great time. So keep your mind happy. Knowing that it is game of time surrender to God. So don’t go on complaining about how someone treated you, that is upto them. Don’t let that make you unhappy. The meaning of knowledge is to be happy. To smile when someone speaks good or bad words to you. Else what is the use of knowledge. Even a fool can smile when he is being praised. If you can maintain your smile when some pulls you down or criticizes you then you have started living the knowledge, then the knowledge that u have received is useful. Don’t become a football of other people’s opinions. This is the essence of it. And this is happening. Earlier in the smallest things you used to become an explosive bomb. So then what is the use of coming into knowledge? If you listen to a little knowledge, and even a little bit enters your intellect, some stability comes in you.. You should be in such a state of mind that nobody is able to rob you of your smile. Then knowledge makes our intellect sharp, our heart soft. If you are not in knowledge then your heart becomes hard in time. You start disliking things, you lose belongingness with people, no matter what people say I start doubting them. Even if someone praises you, you feel they are taunting you. This the sign of stress. The sign is that you don’t see good in anybody or anything, you thing it is all wrong. If someone brings you flowers, you don’t see the flowers, you only see the thorns.. this is only your imagination. Nobody stands to gain anything by troubling you! Nobody has the time, they are troubled themselves! .. Believe that nobody is out to harm you, and if they are then they deserve only your compassion.
